Louis Camilleri
presented his resignation as Ferrari CEO on Thursday citing "personal reasons", which appear to be related to his health or that of one of his relatives.
Just a few weeks ago, the 65-year-old Italian executive had decided to move his residence to New York after overcoming Covid-19.
At the moment it is unknown who will occupy his position, which is temporarily assumed by
John Elkann
, executive president of Ferrari.
"I would like to express our sincere appreciation to Louis for his tireless dedication as CEO since 2018 and as a member of our board of directors since 2015," Elkann said in a statement.
Camilleri, for his part, also offered to publish a statement in which he appreciated the treatment of the legendary Italian brand.
"Ferrari has been a part of my life and serving as CEO has been a privilege. I am proud of the many achievements of the company since 2018 and I know that the best years of Ferrari are yet to come", stressed the former president of Philip Morris International , the other position you have resigned.
Camilleri had taken over as CEO in July 2018, following the sudden death of
Sergio Marchionne
, a former Ferrari president.
His first decision was to place
Mattia Binotto
as head of the Scuderia, replacing
Maurizio Arrivabene
.
Of course, his resignation may now have unforeseeable consequences for the F1 team.
Binotto is experiencing a delicate situation due to the terrible results of the 2020 World Cup, while everyone in Maranello prepares to receive
Carlos Sainz
, who in the coming days will occupy the vacant seat of
Sebastian Vettel
.
