Belgium finishes 2020 at the top of the world teams ... and Tunisia maintains the Arab lead

The Belgian national football team maintained the top of the world rankings for the game's teams in the new version of the classification issued today by the International Federation for the Game (FIFA), ending the Belgian national team (the Red Devils) in 2020 at the top of the classification.

The Belgian national team won six of the eight international matches it fought in 2020, which was severely affected by the outbreak of the emerging "Corona" virus, which caused the postponement of many tournaments, especially the European Nations Cup (Euro 2020) and the South American Nations Cup (America Copa 2020) in addition to many matches that were scheduled for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

FIFA announced that the year 2020 witnessed only 352 international matches, compared to the more than 1,000 international matches witnessed in 2019.

The new version of the classification today witnessed very slight changes from the previous version, which was issued by FIFA only two weeks ago, as these two weeks did not witness international matches.

The Belgian national team tops the classification with 1780 points, compared to 1755 points for the French team, the world champion, and 1743 points for its Brazilian counterpart, with France and Brazil in second and third places, respectively.

The Hungarian national team was the one with the best jump in the new version of the classification, as it jumped 12 places to the 40th place, knowing that it secured qualification for Euro 2020 through the play-off supplement.

The top ten did not witness any change from the previous version of the classification, where the places from the fourth to the tenth respectively were for England (1670 points), Portugal (1662 points), Spain (1645 points), Argentina (1642 points), Uruguay (1639 points) and Mexico. (1632 points) and Italy (1625 points).

The Tunisian national team maintained its position at the top of the Arab teams in the new version of the classification, as it remained in the twenty-sixth place and came second among the African teams after the Senegalese national team.

At the Arab level, Algeria, Morocco and Egypt ranked next to Tunisia and occupied the 31st, 35th and 49th positions, respectively, globally.
