After Real Madrid's double starbursts in the group stage against Shakhtar Donetsk (0-2 and 2-3), the team had to defeat Borussia Mönchengladbach in the final round.

And it did not take more than nine minutes before Lucas found Karim Benzema with a pass to 1-0.

After 34 minutes, it was time again for Benzema who nodded in 2-0.

Madrid had another ball inside from Luka Modric, but it was ruled out due to offside.

Great dominance

Real Madrid continued their compact dominance and only allowed Mönchengladbach to stand out on occasion.

On one occasion, the Germans were really close to reducing.

After 65 minutes, Alassane Plea came close to leveling the score with a dangerous shot from the center of the area that went just over the bar.

Mönchengladbach's goalkeeper Yann Sommer had to show his class a few times in the second half.

First he saved a shot from Toni Kroos and a little later a header from Sergio Ramos.

In connection with the latter chance, Karim Benzema thumped the ball into the crossbar from close range.
