The Montenegrin team, which got a new national team captain when the blue and yellow coach profile Per Johansson was fired shortly before the European Championships, connected a real grip on the Balkan meeting when at the beginning of the match they turned 0-2 to 9-3 in less than ten minutes.

The lead looked secure until the final stage, when Montenegro lost 25-20 to 25-24 and there was a bit of nerve in the match.

But Itana Grbic found the far corner until 26-24 and Slovenia never had time to get up.

The victory means that Montenegro continues as third from Group A, but with zero points after the initial losses against France and Denmark.

When the European Championships continue with the intermediate round in Herning on Thursday, Montenegro will face Sweden directly, in a match where the loser can deduct their chances of reaching the semifinals.

Sweden has one point in the intermediate round, thanks to the draw against Spain.

Sweden and Montenegro met in the intermediate round of the World Cup a year ago, when there was a Swedish loss (23-26).

The text will be updated after Denmark – France later tonight.
