At the age of 34, Lindsey Vonn chose to end her career in February 2019. She had struggled with injuries for several years.

After a long career with medals in the Olympics and World Cup, as well as 82 World Cup victories, the body said no.

The tough knee injuries had left their mark.

"My body is too scarred and can not be restored with operations," she wrote on Instagram, among other things.

"I'm always in pain"

Vonn, 36 years old today, has done an interview with Blick.

There she says that she still suffers a lot from the injuries.

- I will probably have to operate on knee protests in the next few years.

At the moment I can not see how it could be better without them.

I have done several injections and tried to rest completely from exercise.

But I'm always in pain.

I now pay the price for my success as an alpine skier, says Vonn to Blick.

The training keeps her positive.

- My knees hurt even more when I do not exercise.

So I always have to stay in top shape.

When I start my day with a workout, I am most happy.

I will never stop going to the gym, that's one thing for sure.
