Many believe that Belarus should be deprived of the World Ice Hockey World Cup next year, after countless reports and violence and torture in the wake of the protests against Alexander Lukashenko.

The country's sports stars have been hit particularly hard by violence and reprisals - one of them is the athlete Andrei Krauchenko who was beaten and tortured.

- As it looks here and now - and the assessment we make from the Swedish side - it is not possible to play under these conditions.

Now our international federation is working on this issue.

There are a number of aspects for them to deal with.

All based on the security situation in the country, it's about covid and the entire spread of infection.

And then a number of different technical issues around finances, agreements and insurance, says Anders Larsson, chairman of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association, to SVT Sport.

"Taken from what you see"

- As a sports leader, you are taken by what you see, but also as a human being.

I think all people who see this type of report will be.

In this case, it is about elite athletes who stand up for freedom and democracy.

They are treated this way - it's gripping.

The World Cup issue will be discussed when the International Ice Hockey Federation has a membership meeting on 11 December.
