Deprived of its supporters, Stade Rennais hoped to obtain compensation for this damage from its insurers, but the latter refused.

The Breton club therefore decided to take them to court.

A hearing was held this Thursday morning before the Rennes commercial court to claim compensation for operating losses due to health measures imposed by the authorities.

Contacted, the club chaired by Nicolas Holveck declined to comment.

The Stade Rennais Football Club company intends to challenge the insurers' analysis according to which a clause in its contract excludes the consequences of an epidemic.

According to Le Télégramme, the club would claim 4.5 million euros for the administrative closure and operating losses.

First club to take legal action

Since the first spring confinement, restaurateurs had initiated similar proceedings in court, but Rennes is the first football club to publicly mention such an action.

Qualified in the Champions League for the first time in its history, the Pinault family club was eliminated from all European competition on Wednesday night, after its conceded defeat in Krasnodar.
