Frank Lampard believes that Olivier Giroud has once again proven how important he is to Chelsea on Wednesday evening.

The Frenchman, who barely gets playing time this season, gave 'The Blues' the victory at Sevilla (0-4) with four goals.

"It is unbelievably clever if you can score four times at this level against such a strong opponent," Lampard said at his press conference.

"It is more than right that he received a standing ovation during his substitution. I am very happy for him."

The 34-year-old Giroud made his first goal in the eighth minute and then only scored again in the second half.

The striker is only the second Chelsea player ever to score four goals in a European match.

Peter Osgood preceded him in September 1971.

"He is the ultimate professional and I think his numbers in the French team and in the Champions League show that by now," said Lampard.

"When I started here, I could immediately feel the positivity that 'Oli' radiates - the way he wants to train, but also the way he wants to motivate others."

Summary Sevilla-Chelsea (0-4)

'Giroud is an example for other bankers'

Despite the words of praise;

Giroud is not used much by Lampard this season.

The 105-time international was only at the kick-off against Sevilla for the second time this season and once he is allowed to come in, he often does not play more than twenty minutes.

“Olivier is a great example for our talents and for the players in the squad who cannot always count on a lot of playing time. Olivier has done against Sevilla, "said Lampard.

Giroud himself did not want to blow too high from the tower after his lead role or express his dissatisfaction with his spare role.

"When I'm on the field, I'm the happiest man there can be. I try to be patient, have faith and add something extra to the team. But it always feels good to write history."

Thanks to Giroud's four goals, Hakim Ziyech's Chelsea secured a group win in the Champions League.

Just like the Londoners, Sevilla was already certain of a place in the eighth finals.
