It will be 52-year-old Ståle Solbakken, who was recently fired from FC Copenhagen, who takes over.

According to the Norwegian union, Lagerbäck was aware that the union had held discussions with Solbakken since he became vacant.

- Where we are now, between two qualifiers, we want a perspective that is at least four years ahead.

To begin with, to the European Championships 2024, says union president Terje Svendsen in a press release.

The incoming national team captain pays tribute to Lagerbäck as he now takes over.

- I am proud to have got the job as the new national team captain.

For me, this is a good time to take over.

Lars Lagerbäck and Per Joar Hansen have done a good job and developed a foundation that it will be exciting to continue working with, he says.

In a written statement to TT, Lagerbäck says that they end at the request of NFF, which uses a clause in the contract to end the cooperation.

"It is always sad to leave a team that you have worked with for many years.

Among other things, considering our support apparatus which has contributed in a very good way to our achievements, and shown great loyalty on and off the field.

Furthermore, the player group with a few exceptions has in every way shown a professional attitude and made very good work efforts ”.

Solbakken will officially take over on 7 December.
