Mick Schumacher, the son of legendary driver Michael Schumacher, will debut in Formula 1 next season.

He will become the partner of Nikita Mazepin, the contract with which was signed the day before.

The Russian and the German replaced Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean in the American team, for whom the current championship will be the last in its composition.

Schumacher Jr.'s appearance in Formula 1, which his father won a record seven times, was one of the most anticipated events in the world of auto racing this year.

The 21-year-old driver has managed to establish himself as one of the most talented young pilots, who has a chance, if not to repeat the achievement of his great parent, then at least to show decent results against his background.

At the moment he leads the overall standings of "Formula-2" and in the coming days he may become a champion in this class.

“The prospect of becoming a Formula 1 driver next year makes me incredibly happy, I just have no words.

I would like to thank the Haas and Ferrari teams and the Ferrari Racing Academy for their confidence in me.

I also want to express my love to my parents - I owe everything to them.

I have always believed that I would realize my dream of competing in Formula 1.

Also, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the great motorsport fans who have supported me throughout my career.

I will give my best as always, and I look forward to embarking on this journey with the Haas team and motorsports enthusiasts, ”Schumacher said after joining the team.

Haas chief Gunther Steiner noted that the choice in favor of the German pilot was due to his performance in the junior series.

He recalled that Schumacher Jr. already has many achievements in motorsport behind his back.

“I am delighted to confirm that Mick Schumacher is joining our squad for next season.

I look forward to welcoming him to the team.

Formula 2 has long been a kind of testing ground where riders could demonstrate their talents, and this season in the series turned out to be one of the most competitive in recent years.

Mick has won races, placed on the podium and achieved success in races against very talented racers.

I sincerely believe that with his results he earned the opportunity to rise one step higher and compete in Formula 1.

Our team was given the chance to assess the ability and nurture a new rider given how familiar we are with the design of our car ahead of the 2021 season, ”Steiner said.

Schumacher will be able to test the Formula 1 car already on December 11 during Friday's free session at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

He will also take part in tests for young pilots on the Yas-Marina track.

A full-fledged racing debut is expected as early as next season, which should first start from the Australian Grand Prix.

In the meantime, Schumacher is faced with the task of retaining the first place in the Formula 2 championship, which will end this week at the Sakhir Grand Prix.

The German driver is 14 points ahead of Briton Callum Ilott in the overall standings and will celebrate the victory if he scores 35 points in the remaining two races.

If successful, Schumacher will win the second significant title in his career - in 2018 he won the Formula 3 European Championship.

Schumacher began to achieve his first successes in motorsport as a child, when he played in karting.

It is interesting that then he performed either under the maiden name of his mother Batch, or under the pseudonym Junior, so as not to attract undue attention to himself because of his famous father.

Then he nevertheless regained his own surname, under which his uncle Ralph also performed in Formula 1 races.

The Schumachers will become the third family in history, more than two of which have competed on the Formula 1 tracks.

The first to achieve this was the Fittipaldi family from Brazil.

Emerson Fittipaldi is a two-time world champion, his older brother Wilson has participated in 38 Grand Prix and owned his own team, and his son Christian has been a Formula 1 driver for three years.

Another relative will debut in the series this coming weekend - Emerson's grandson Fittipaldi Pietro will replace Grosjean at the Haas at the Sahir Grand Prix after the accident that occurred in the previous stage.

Also, three pilots played in Formula 1 under the name Villeneuve.

The first was Canadian Gilles Villeneuve, who finished second in the 1979 championship.

His son Jacques surpassed the achievement and won the overall classification in 1997.

Gilles' brother, Jacques Villeneuve - Sr., also went to the Formula 1 Grand Prix, but never qualified for the race.
