Football fans are very worried: for the first time in its history, the Coupe de France could not take place this year because of the coronavirus crisis.

"It's almost done," warned the president of the French Football Federation, Noël Le Graët.

"It's almost done": these are the not really reassuring words of the President of the French Football Federation, Noël Le Graët, spoken by our colleagues from France 3 Bretagne.

Words that designate the 2020/2021 French Football Cup: the oldest competitions could indeed be canceled for the first time in its history, because of the health situation linked to the coronavirus.

Coronavirus: follow the evolution of the situation Monday, November 30

Until January 20, the date announced for the resumption of amateur sport, there will be no training or matches for amateur clubs.

So impossible in these conditions to compete in the Coupe de France, while there are still three rounds to play before the return of professional clubs.

The more time passes, the more the schedule tightens.

Everything must be in by June 11, the date of the start of the Euro.

A heartbreak for amateur clubs

A puzzle for the federation, a heartbreak for amateur clubs.

"It represents 50% of the club's annual budget, it's huge," laments Europe 1 Mickael Bertansetti, president of Linas Montlhéry.

He faced PSG last year in the 32nd final, a dream poster and XXL income for his small team in Essonne.

"We needed a pitch because we no longer had an installation up to standard. And the town hall, this summer, gave us a pitch that saves us the day. All these things happen to us thanks to the Coupe de France ", continues the president.

The Coupe de France did not even stop during World War II.

But today she is in danger.

The Federation considers all the hypotheses: only to play professional clubs or to cancel it outright.

She hopes above all for a relaxation of measures by President Emmanuel Macron on December 15.
