The Hispano-Suiza company has suffered during the pandemic the slowdown of its operations, but it has not stopped at any time.

This week it unveiled in Madrid the second model of the brand, the Carmen Boulogne, a reality that can already circulate on the road.

The Boulogne is an

evolution, sportier, lighter, powerful, expensive and exclusive, of the Carmen that was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show

.

It should have been the star

of the brand's

stand

at the Swiss event in 2020 that was canceled just a few days before due to the pandemic.

It was finally shown in Barcelona on March 3, a few days before the lockdown, and since then the brand's engineers have worked tirelessly to make it happen.

At his side, the pilot Luis Pérez Sala

, a tester for the brand,

has also worked

, who has been in charge of setting it up.

It is a

two-seater with two doors that open upwards

.

It measures 4.73 meters long, with a wheelbase of 2.80 and two meters wide.

The height is 1.2 meters and weighs 1,630 kilos, 60 less than the Carmen.

To achieve the greatest lightness, carbon fiber has been used above all, in the chassis and even in the steering wheel and the bodywork that, like in a haute couture suit, perfectly adjusts the metal lines on a dark background of this material.

The front pays tribute to the Hispano Suiza of the early 20th century.

0-100 km / h in 2.6 seconds

The Boulogne uses the

chassis and powertrain technology of the Carmen, but improved and enhanced

.

Both are 100% electric but the Boulogne reaches a power of

1,114 horsepower

, 95 more, and raises the speed to

290 km / h

(compared to 250 km / h for the Carmen) with what accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in less 2.6 seconds.

The maximum torque is 1,600 Nm available from start-up.

The Hispano Suiza Carmen Boulogne is powered by

two 410 kW permanent magnet synchronous electric motors

, which are located on each of the rear wheels.

The 700-cell lithium-ion polymer batteries, which are assembled in Barcelona, are T-shaped and act as an interior skeleton, from the center column to the rear. They have a capacity of 80 kWh and, according to Hispano Suiza, could have a

range of 400 km, pending homologation

.

The fast charging capacity is above 80 kW, which would allow

charging from 30% to 80% in just 30 minutes

with a fast charger.

The brakes are carbon ceramic disc with front and rear calipers.

The cooling of the batteries is achieved through three front radiators, one in the center and other smaller ones on each side.

This nose evokes the style of the ancient Hispano Suiza of the early 20th century.

By the way, under the hood it has a small trunk in which a trolley can fit.

Only four left

All units

are manufactured by hand at Hispano Suiza's facilities in Barcelona

and each unit takes between eight months and a year to manufacture.

Next March this unit that has been shown in Madrid will travel to Florida to

the Amelia Island elegance contest

where it is next to a Hispano Suiza from 1928. March 2021 will be especially important for the brand because that month it sends the second and third unit sold, a Carmen and a Boulogne.

Its price amounts to 1.65 million euros (without taxes), while the Carmen has a price of 1.5 million.

Both allow

maximum customization

so that figure is just the basis of what they can cost.

The only unit already delivered so far of a Hispano Suiza of the XXI century, a Carmen who traveled to Miami, cost 2 million euros

.

Production will be limited to

19 units of the Carmen and five of the Boulogne

, of which one has already been sold in Mexico.

The Carmen Boulogne takes its name from the brand's triumph in a 1921 race in France around Boulogne-sur-Mer, in which the pioneering Hispano Suiza H6 Coupé achieved its greatest successes.
