Mohamed Salah is among 11 candidates to win the best player in the world award

Polish Robert Lewandowski, the best player in Europe, is on top of a list of 11 candidates for the best player award in the world presented by FIFA, which was announced yesterday, among them Liverpool star, Egyptian Mohamed Salah.

Lewandowski won the European Footballer of the Year award by the Confederation (WEF), after winning three championships, the German Cup and the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich last season.

Lewandowski competes with Argentine Lionel Messi, Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, Brazilian Neymar, French Kylian Mbappe, Egyptian Mohamed Salah, Spaniard Thiago Alcantara, Belgian Kevin De Bruyne, Senegalese Sadio Mane, Spaniard Sergio Ramos, and Dutch Virgil Van Dyck.

FIFA will distribute its prizes by default on December 17, after it was initially scheduled last September, and it was postponed due to the outbreak of the Corona pandemic.

The names will be narrowed down to a final list of three to be announced on December 11th.

In addition to the Best Player of the Year award, FIFA will also award the best goalkeeper and coaches (men and women), in addition to the Puskas award for the best goal and the fair play award.

Winners will be chosen by voting by national team leaders and coaches, a group of more than 200 journalists, as well as fans polled online between November 25 and December 9.

Bayern Munich's top scorer, Lewandowski, is the most prominent candidate for the award.
