The release of Jordanian Olympic champion Abu Ghosh after the suspension of his prison sentence

The Jordanian Public Security Court decided to suspend the execution of the prison sentence issued against the Olympic champion in the game of Taekwondo Ahmed Abu Ghosh, against the background of a criminal case.

A sports source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that the Public Security Directorate "released Abu Ghosh at the end of last week after he was suspended for nearly 80 days in a correction and rehabilitation center against the background of a criminal case related to a problem with his civil registration."

On the fifth of November, the Public Security Court issued a decision to imprison Abu Ghosh, a member of the Public Security Agency, for six months and expel him from military service for the offense of possessing a passport illegally.

This decision came based on the legal powers of the Public Security Directorate and in accordance with the spirit of the law and with the aim of giving him the opportunity to be able to re-engage with society in a proper manner and to clear the way for him again to return to the sports field, according to previous statements of the Public Security Directorate which also stated, "We hope that this decision will be A motivation for him to show discipline, follow laws, and exercise good citizenship.

Abu Ghosh, 24, engraved his name in gold letters in the Jordanian sport at the Olympic Games Rio 2016, by winning the gold medal in the weight of 68 kg in Taekwondo, an achievement for the first time.

Abu Ghosh thanked everyone who stood by him during the period of his detention, through what he posted on his Facebook page, "I would like to thank everyone who made sure of me, whether by trying to contact me or even by letter or word, and I would like to inform everyone that I thank God for a thousand good."

He continued, "I must give thanks and gratitude to each of you for the support and stance I found behind me, from which love stems from all of you. During the past period, you overwhelmed me with your kindness and love, and this is a blessing from God, and I also excuse those who misunderstood me or offended me."

He added, "Allow me not to go into any legal details about what happened to me during the last period with any person or party, out of respect for public security and the Jordanian judiciary. As for my future sports directions, I will inform you of any new developments in due time."
