Vitesse lost points at FC Groningen on Saturday.

Partly due to a huge miss by striker Armando Broja, the Arnhem team remained at 1-1 and competitor Ajax can finish on Sunday.

The team of trainer Thomas Letsch fell behind in the empty Hitachi Capital Mobility Stadium by a nice goal by Patrick Joosten.

The FC Groningen attacker hit from a distance.

Just before half time, Vitesse tied the score after Matús Bero had already messed up a considerable opportunity.

After a clever free kick by Oussama Tannane, it was the attentive Loïs Opende who made it 1-1 from close range.

In the second half of the match with few chances, Vitesse striker Broja had the winning goal on his shoe.

The young Albanian took the ball well and played goalkeeper Sergio Padt cleverly, but shot hopelessly in front of an empty goal.

He therefore remains on four hits.

The draw in Groningen means that Vitesse, which had won seven of the previous eight matches, as the leader, has a point ahead of Ajax.

However, the team from Amsterdam will still play on Sunday.

Heracles Almelo is the opponent in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

FC Groningen, where Arjen Robben was still missing, is still performing with four victories, two draws and three defeats.

The team of trainer Danny Buijs is seventh.
