Coach Pep Guardiola will remain on Manchester City's bench until June 2023, after extending his current contract for two more seasons.

A project that would go away at the age of seven and that leaves the Spanish coach "very excited".

"Manchester City are pleased to announce that Pep Guardiola has signed a new two-year contract with the club. The contract, which now runs through the summer of 2023, sees Guardiola's commitment to City extended to seven years from his arrival in 2016 ", revealed the Manchester club.

Since Guardiola's arrival at City in 2016, the club believes that the Catalan has had a "transformative effect" on the style of play and highlights that he has guided the team to eight titles and to break several records.

"The extension of Pep's contract is the natural next step in a journey that has evolved over many years. It is a product of trust and mutual respect, and applies to stability and creativity at the heart of our football operations," he pointed.

For his part, Pep Guardiola expressed his joy after signing the new contract.

"The challenge for us is to keep improving and evolving and I am very excited to help Manchester City to achieve that," he said.

"Since I arrived at Manchester City they have made me feel very welcome at the club and in the city, from the players, the staff, the fans, the people of Manchester and the president," he said.

"I have everything I could wish for to do my job well and I am honored by the confidence shown in me to continue for two more years after this season," concluded the coach.
