Hwang Sun-woo, the rising star of Korean swimming, finally broke Park Tae-hwan's Korean record in the men's freestyle 100m.

Hwang Sun-woo, a 17-year-old student at Seoul Gymnasium, climbed to the top with a record of 48 seconds and 25 in the men's freestyle 100m in the national qualifier held at the Gimcheon indoor swimming pool.

Hwang Sun-woo broke the Korean record of 48 seconds 42, written by Park Tae-hwan in February 2014, by 0.17 seconds in 6 years and 9 months.

After Park Tae-hwan changed Kim Min-seok's Korean record at the National Official Records Association's Freestyle 100m in 2006, only Park Tae-hwan broke the freestyle 100m Korean record six times.

Also, considering all men's freestyle events (100m, 200m, 400m, 1,500m) excluding short-distance 50m events since 2006, this is the first time a Korean athlete has exceeded Park Tae-hwan's record.

Hwang Seon-Woo made a reservation for the Tokyo Olympics by lightly exceeding 48 seconds 57 degrees, the A standard record (Olympic qualifying time) for the Olympic Games.
