Will this help change mentalities in terms of racism in the football world?

For the first time in Spain, a Barcelona prosecutor opened proceedings Monday for racist insults against two Espanyol Barcelona supporters.

"Attack on the dignity of persons"

The two supporters are believed to have used racist slurs against Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams during a La Liga game between the two teams last season.

The prosecution accuses them of violating fundamental rights for "attacking the dignity of persons due to discrimination linked to the nation or to national origin".

This investigation follows a complaint filed by the National Football League after the meeting between Athletic Bilbao and Espayol Barcelona on January 25, during which the Basque player of Ghanaian parents was the target of racist insults, including Cries imitating monkeys, from Catalan supporters.

Espanyol police and security had managed to identify three supporters, including a minor who therefore cannot be charged.
