In the must-win match, it could not have been a much better start.

A French defense saw Viktor Claesson catch a run-in to then trample through and then toe to the ball.

The shot was not hard but was directed at a player and put Hugo Lloris completely in the goal.

Dream start for Sweden and the Nations League place in the A-division was within reach.

Small chances at half time

However, the joy did not last long.

When Sweden lost the ball in the second third, a quick change came.

The French got the ball out to Marcus Thuram.

The midfielder challenged and looked askance inwards backwards where Olivier Giroud was and pushed it in at the first post.

At the same time as Croatia made 1-0 on Portugal and Sweden's chances were reduced and if the chances were small then they became even smaller before half time.

Again, it was Thuram who was the author and pretended through the Swedish defense.

The Frenchman continued until it stopped and then found out with the ball to compatriot Benjamin Pavard who pulled in with a beautiful half volley to 2-1.

Sweden's chances of survival in the A-division would, however, re-emerge for a brief moment.

The help came from elsewhere when Portugal took the lead against Croatia and then only a Swedish goal was required to stay.

Cold shower immediately

Shortly afterwards, the door was slammed shut again.

New French attack and substitute Kylian Mbappe received a post that hit a protruding Giroud right on the forehead to 3-1.

Sweden, however, would sprint one last time.

With less than a few minutes left, Robin Quaison put 2-3 and at the same time there was hope when Portugal won 3-2 against Croatia.

But despite a last blue-yellow onslaught, it never got close and instead France put 4-2 in an empty goal when Sweden bet everything.

Thus, Sweden goes out with a goal margin and you now have to take on the B-division with countries such as Iceland, Finland and the Czech Republic.
