Salvation of Spain in the 89th minute

The main hero and at the same time the anti-hero of the game of the League of Nations was the captain of the Spanish national team Sergio Ramos.

On the one hand, the away match with Switzerland was 177th for him for the Red Fury.

The 34-year-old defender broke into the leaders of Europe in this indicator, beating Gianluigi Buffon (176 meetings for Italians).

The world record belongs to the Egyptian Ahmed Hassan, who played 184 matches for his national team.

On the other hand, in the second half, the veteran missed two penalties at once.

In both cases, Ramos slightly hit the left corner, and Jan Sommer calmly took out the balls.

Thus, he became the first goalkeeper in history, reflecting two shots from the "spot" from Sergio.

The defender himself interrupted a series of 25 penalty kicks in a row in all tournaments, which had lasted since May 2018.

Sommer's saves almost helped Switzerland to beat a venerable opponent.

She took the lead in the middle of the first half thanks to a beautiful shot from Remo Freuler from outside the box.

However, the Spaniards managed to equalize the score in the 89th minute, and Gerard Moreno, who came on as a substitute shortly before, struck another goal.

One way or another, Luis Enrique's wards lost the most important points and extended their unbeaten streak on the road to seven matches.

Bad day for Ukraine

The Germans, who received Ukraine in Leipzig, could not help but take advantage of the misfire of a direct competitor.

At the same time, the meeting until the last was under threat of disruption.

Before the match, four players of the Ukrainian national team passed positive tests for coronavirus at once: Andriy Yarmolenko, Serhiy Sidorchuk, Viktor Kovalenko and Viktor Tsygankov.

However, no new cases of COVID-19 were detected during retesting, and the game took place on time.

And it started with a real "cold shower" for the owners.

Already in the 12th minute, Roman Yaremchuk opened the scoring with a powerful blow to the near nine.

This goal was only the second for the Ukrainian national team, scored in away matches with Germany.

And the first was chalked up by the current head coach of the team Andriy Shevchenko in 2001.

However, the guests' joy was short-lived, since in the middle of the first half the Germans managed to score twice.

First, Andriy Pyatov's goal was struck by Leroy Zane, and then by Timo Werner.

In both cases, the partners were assisted by Leon Goretzka.

And after the break, the Chelsea striker scored a double and removed all questions about the winner of the meeting.

The striker also extended his own scoring streak to five matches in all tournaments in which he scored seven goals.

Ukraine, despite the defeat, has the right to complain about the lack of luck, because in the second half Shevchenko's wards hit the post of Neuer three times.

The Ukrainian national team has lost their last chances to participate in the final stage of the tournament and on Tuesday they will play a decisive game with Switzerland for the right to stay in League A.

An inconvenient opponent for Ronaldo

The reigning European champion and the reigning world champion, Portugal and France, respectively, met in the central match of the day in Lisbon.

And at stake was no less than a ticket to the semifinals of the League of Nations, which one of the teams received in case of victory.

In this case, the guests on the eve of the meeting were left without the injured Kilian Mbappe.

The first half was absolutely equal.

The rivals delivered approximately the same number of punches.

The dangerous moments were enough.

For example, Anthony Martial, after half an hour of the meeting, hit the crossbar with his head.

And right after the break, the French still managed to come out ahead.

Rui Patriciu unsuccessfully reflected the ball in front of him, and the first to finish was N'Golo Kante.

Having conceded, the Portuguese did everything in order to recoup, but could not print the experienced Hugo Lloris, who saved the team several times.

Even Cristiano Ronaldo could not excel.

He was left without goals in all six games against the French.

This is the worst single-player streak of its kind in the career of a five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Thus, the tricolors won with a minimum score and advanced to the final of the League of Nations.

Portugal, however, could not leave the group, being the reigning champion of the tournament.

Revenge of Sweden

In another match of Group 3 of League A, Sweden won the first victory in the current season of the League of Nations and at the same time took revenge from the opponent for the defeat in Zagreb.

This time the Scandinavians were stronger with a similar score - 2: 1.

Dejan Kulushevski and Markus Danielsson scored goals in their line-up.

And the last one in the end also hit his own goal.

Two Krasnodar legionnaires Kristoffer Olsson and Markus Berg, who spent 90 minutes on the field, also made a significant contribution to the hosts' victory.

Another southern footballer Viktor Klasson came on as a substitute during the second half.

And in the starting lineup of the Croats were Filip Uremovic and Nikola Vlasic.

True, the Rubin defender was injured shortly before the break and had to end the game ahead of schedule.

Faroe Islands and Gibraltar on the move

Meanwhile, in other divisions, the struggle for promotion continues.

So, Malta and the Faroe Islands in a head-to-head confrontation will have to determine who will play in League C in the next draw of the League of Nations.

Moreover, the “fishermen” could guarantee themselves the first place in the group already on Saturday, but on the road they failed to beat Latvia, which failed the tournament (not a single victory) - 1: 1.

Along the way, they extended the unbeaten streak in the tournament to five meetings.

Malta managed to take advantage of the opponent's misfire and at home won a strong-willed victory over Andorra - 3: 1.

The guests scored in the third minute, but conceded three unanswered goals in the second half.

Now the Maltese are three points behind the Faroe Islands and, moreover, are inferior to the opponent in personal meetings, having been defeated in the first round - 2: 3.

Thus, on Tuesday in Ta-Kali, the Maltese need a victory by two goals.

And in Group 2 of League D, he practically secured himself a promotion in the class of Gibraltar, which was only recently recognized by UEFA and received the right to play official matches.

Julio Ribas's charges, like the Maltese, could have secured first place on Saturday, but drew with San Marino - 0: 0.

Now they are waiting for a decisive match with Liechtenstein, in which Gibraltar will even be satisfied with a draw.
