The mission seems impossible.

But he accepted it anyway.

Régis Sonnes has been officially appointed manager of Agen.

He will be assisted by two former SUA players, Jalil Narjissi in charge of forwards and Sylvain Mirande who will take care of the back lines.

This trio, which is committed until 2022, took office on Monday.

“They all have a special bond and attachment to the club.

These are profiles which correspond to the identity of the game and to the values of the SUA, ”said President Jean-François Fonteneau, who had acted for two weeks after the dismissal of manager Christophe Laussucq and his deputy Rémi Vaquin after bad results.

First experience as number 1

Régis Sonnes, 48 years old, former 3rd row of Agen (1998-2001), had started his coaching career at Armandie (2005-2006) as assistant to the duo Christian Lanta - Christophe Deylaud.

Subsequently, he had in hand the Spanish selection, then the forwards of Bordeaux-Bègles.

Returning to Toulouse after running a rugby school in Ireland and coaching an amateur club near Cork, he was champion of France in 2019.

Narjissi, 40, was AUS hooker for twelve seasons (2004-2016) while Mirande, 36, wore the eight-time French champion club jersey for five seasons (2003-2008).

This announcement came a few minutes after Agen's new home defeat against Toulon (9-38), his ninth in nine days in the Top 14. One third of the championship, the SUA is seven points behind Brive, the current play-off, who played one game less.
