The launch of the first international golf tournament for women in Saudi Arabia

The first professional golf tournament for women kicked off in Saudi Arabia today, when German player Leonie Harm hit his first kick to mark the start of the tournament.

More than 100 players are competing for the title in the Saudi International Women's Championship in King Abdullah Economic City on the Red Sea, and the tournament will continue until next Sunday.

The tournament is held without a public presence due to the emerging corona virus.

The holding of the championship comes within the framework of Saudi Arabia's keenness to consolidate its position as a destination for international sporting events.

The Kingdom hosted the boxing heavyweight title last December, and is also preparing to organize a Grand Prix Formula 1 car race for the first time next year.
