Stenson came to Augusta National with low expectations after a tough season and brooding around the swing.

He had to work hard for his initial Masters round in one stroke under par, as he still has not found the right feeling.

- This is a course with small margins.

When you stand at some strokes and do not feel comfortable, and do not really know where the ball starts and what screw it has, then this is a pretty tough place to play golf, he tells TT after finishing the round .

Spooky atmosphere

Henrik Stenson played best at the beginning of the round, three hours late after a heavy rain and thunderstorm during the morning.

When the sun had looked ahead, the British Open winner from 2016 went out and made birdies on both the second and third on a spooky silent Augusta.

When the 44-year-old's putts rolled in, only one person applauded - his wife Emma.

She had to applaud again when Stenson nicely saved par on hole 5 before he burned three good birdie positions on the coming holes.

Due to the weather break, not everyone has time to finish their lap before dark.

Stenson is tentatively around 30th place and has several big names ahead of him in the results list, such as Tiger Woods (–4), Jon Rahm (–3) and Bryson DeChambeau (–2).

Stenson is the only Swede in the competition.
