The accident occurred during a training session with England's national team and information in the British media claimed that Gomez will be gone for a long time.

On its website, Liverpool confirm that the 23-year-old will probably miss a significant part of the season.

"There is no timetable for his return," the Premier League club wrote.

The operation went well and now rehabilitation awaits Gomez, who is given in Liverpool's starting eleven.

The reigning league champion already misses defense giant Virgil van Dijk, who has a knee injury and could miss the rest of the season.

Liverpool are currently third in the Premier League with 17 points, one point behind leading Leicester.
