Vendée Globe favorite, Jéremie Beyou must return to Les Sables d'Olonnes

It's a huge blow for Jérémie Beyou.

Big favorite in this Vendée Globe, four years after finishing third in the solo round-the-world race, the skipper of Charal is already losing all his hopes for a final victory.

Beyou must indeed turn around and return to Les Sables d'Olonne after hitting an ofni overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.

His rudder was hit.

"The repairs are more important than expected, Jérémie and his team have therefore made the decision to head to Les Sables d'Olonne", explains his team on Twitter. 

The time to return to Les Sables, to repair the boat and then to set off again, it is difficult to imagine how Charel's skipper could now join the battle for the podium, however fast his boat may be.
