The victory of the UAE Golf Association file came, at the expense of the Singapore Federation file, after the two finalists were determined by the Special Bidding Committee of the International Federation later last month, before voting was opened the day before yesterday, during a meeting. For his part, Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Arab and Emirati Golf Federations, said in press statements that: “It is a great honor for the Emirati file to have the confidence of the members of the International Federation and to host the global event that is held for the first time in the Middle East region.”
Al Qasimi emphasized that the visions of the wise leadership made the UAE a global platform to host major global events in general, and sports in particular, and went on to say: “This achievement is considered a great gain, and strengthens the country's position globally, and its leadership in supporting and developing the sports sector, and achieving successful hosting that It has become the most prominent feature of international events that travel to the country.
He added: “I thank the International Golf Federation and all the members under its umbrella for the confidence granted, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to the UAE, and to present an exceptional copy by all standards, especially since hosting international tournaments comes within the strategies of the Emirates Golf Federation in promoting our development vision for the game. Not only at the state level, but also for all countries in the region.
He concluded: “In 2015, the UAE previously hosted the Nomura Cup, the largest event at the level of golf tournaments in Asia, so that Emirati golf continues to gain international confidence.”
In turn, the Executive Director of the International Golf Federation, Anthony Scanlon, commented on the victory of the Emirati file to host the World Cup, and said: “Both the UAE and Singapore federations submitted strong files to host the World Championships, before the Emirati file won the confidence of the majority of the members.”
