Ronald Koeman cannot have Ansu Fati at FC Barcelona for about four months.

The eighteen-year-old top talent was successfully operated on his knee on Monday and is now awaiting a long recovery process.

Fati sustained his injury on Saturday against Real Betis, won 5-2.

Immediately after the game, Barcelona already reported that the attacker had suffered a tear in his meniscus.

Fati's serious injury is bad news for Koeman.

The youngster had his breakthrough and played an important role at Barcelona with five goals and four assists in the first ten games of the season.

His development led to his debut as a Spain international in early September.

After seven league matches, Barcelona is only eighth in La Liga, although the 26-time national champion has played one or two games less than a large number of competitors.

Atlético Madrid, which is third, is the next opponent for Koeman's team after the international period.

The match in the Wanda Metropolitano stadium starts on Saturday 21 October at 9 p.m.
