If Malmö FF wins at home against Sirius tonight, the "most champions" will take home their 21st Swedish Championship gold - despite the fact that three Allsvenskan rounds remain after today's match.

The victory margin to the second can in the end be record high.

The current table runner-up Elfsborg can at best reach 55 points and in such cases it is the worst points harvest for an Allsvenskan runner-up since the series was expanded to 16 teams in the 2008 season.

- We have not taken the full pot or taken all the points we should have taken.

The other teams have lost many points as well and we have had another trip, but it has been a tough year and we are again the team that takes the best, says Jo Inge Berget.

Believes in a smoother top fight next year

If MFF wins its four final matches, the team reaches 65 points and will at worst win the Allsvenskan with ten points.

The previous record for the 16-team series has MFF from 2017, when the victory margin to second AIK was seven points large.

It was speculated in advance that the large audience teams would be most affected by empty stands, but this does not seem to apply to Malmö.

The potential total score of 65 points is a normal points harvest for a champion team - the last five years it has been 64-67 points.

Next season, MFF's Ola Toivonen expects a smoother top fight - if the audience is allowed to return.

- The teams with more spectators will have more points then.

Then the mental aspect will be much bigger - the audience will play a much bigger role, says Toivonen.

Without celebration and head coach

If MFF wins Swedish Championship gold tonight, there will be no organized celebration with the supporters due to the pandemic restrictions.

The club also appeals to the supporters that they should not go to the Stadium area for any spontaneous celebration.

If the title is salvaged, it will also happen without head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson at the sideline.

On Thursday, the news came that the Dane has tested positive for covid-19 and Dahl Tomasson was immediately disconnected from his assignments.

Instead, it is assistant coach Daniel Bäckström who will handle the coaching against Sirius.
