The scrum half of the XV of France Antoine Dupont was elected best player of the 2020 VI Nations Tournament after a public vote, announced the organizer of the competition on Friday.

The Toulouse player (23 years old, 26 caps) is the first Frenchman to receive this distinction since its creation in 2004. He succeeds the winners of the captain of Wales Alun Wyn Jones.

For this award, Dupont competed with two other Frenchmen, center third row Grégory Alldritt and opener Romain Ntamack, as well as English scrum half Ben Youngs, English second row Maro Itoje and Irish third row CJ Stander.

The six nominated players were chosen by a panel of rugby journalists before a vote reserved for fans to determine the winner, in this case Dupont who received 46% of the votes according to a press release from the organizers.

Dupont embodies with Ntamack the revival of the hinge of the XV of France which ranked second in the Tournament with the same number of points (18) as England, first thanks to a better general point difference.

Author of a test and the origin of four others, Dupont also "covered 249 meters", unparalleled among the other scrum backs in this 2020 edition. He also fired 54 kicks over 1543 meters, " two tournament summits ”according to the organizers.

In the ladies' category, it was the English center three-quarters Emily Scarratt who received this distinction.
