British police arrest Wales coach and historic Man United star

British police have arrested Welsh coach and former Manchester United player Ryan Giggs on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend Kate Greyville, according to press reports late yesterday.

The Welsh Football Association issued a statement saying it was "aware of an alleged incident involving the director of the national team, Ryan Giggs. The association will not comment on this at this time."

The British newspaper "The Sun" reported that the police were summoned to the home of Giggs, 46, late Sunday, after news of a disturbance.

The newspaper said that Giggs was arrested and questioned on suspicion of assault and bodily harm.

The newspaper quoted a statement issued by Greater Manchester Police explaining that "the police were called at 10:05 pm on Sunday, after reports of disturbances. A woman in her thirties was slightly injured but did not require any treatment."

The statement added that "a 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of violating Articles 47 and 39 with assault and attack."

But Giggs denied "all allegations of assault" against his girlfriend, according to a statement issued by his spokesman.

"Giggs denies all allegations of assault against him, and he is cooperating with the police and will continue to assist them in their ongoing investigations," the statement said.

The Welsh team canceled its press conference, which was scheduled for today, in order for Giggs to announce his squad for the friendly match against the United States, and the European Nations League matches against Ireland and Finland later in November.

Giggs was appointed manager of Wales in January 2018 after a remarkable career as a player in which he defended his colors in 64 games, winning at the club level 13 titles in the Premier League, two Champions League titles, four in the England Cup and three in the English League Cup with Manchester United.
