Uchi Muller, wife of German football legend Gerd Muller, confirmed in statements to Bild newspaper on the eve of her husband's 75th birthday that the former Bayern Munich striker suffers greatly from Alzheimer's disease.

Mueller, the historical scorer of the German League, is in a home for the elderly, where his wife visits him on a daily basis, and O'Shea explained that she tries to speak to her husband with slow and clear words, as well as watching TV with him on his birthday like any other day.

O'Shea continued: "He is calm and peaceful, and I do not think that he should suffer. I hope that he does not think about his inevitable fate and the disease that deprives his sufferers of the last remaining dignity for them."

Bayern Munich, where Mueller previously played, revealed the disease that afflicted Muller in 2015, on his 70th birthday.

Müller scored 365 goals in 427 matches in the German Bundesliga, also achieved all possible titles with Bayern Munich, and he also scored 40 goals in one season, a number that no one has broken so far.

With West Germany, Mueller won the 1972 European Nations Cup and the 1974 World Cup, where he scored a goal in the final match, and scored 68 goals in 62 matches.
