Football: The Lille-Lyon debrief -

20 Minutes

Play, rhythm and twists.

Often mocked for its low level, Ligue 1 can thank Lille and Lyon for offering it great publicity on Sunday evening.

The draw (1-1) between two strong candidates for the podium kept all its promises.

And already given some lessons for the rest of the season even if Lille (2nd) keeps five points ahead of OL (6th).

Lille solid but frustrated

If Losc, the only undefeated club in Ligue 1, has chained an eleventh game without defeat in a row in all competitions, it owes it largely to its defense.

With four goals conceded since the start of the season, Losc, 2nd in Ligue 1, is a rock.

And when he cracks a little, it is the fault of bad luck as on this goal against his camp Celik (41st) who deflected despite himself a strike from Aouar.

Even the exit on injury of Fonte, the boss of the defense, did not destabilize Lille.

Problem, eleven against ten for most of the second half, Losc wasted too many opportunities in front to win the bet.

What bite the fingers of not having managed to distance even more a competitor on the podium.

Lopes saved the day for the Lyonnais

If OL took a point this Sunday evening on the Lille lawn, he can say a big thank you to Anthony Lopes.

Beaten at the start of the match on a beautiful strike from Bamba (22nd), the Portuguese international then multiplied the parries.

Whether it is in front of Yilmaz (26th), Bamba (62nd) or even Yazici, the OL goalkeeper has pulled out all the stops.

Marcelo could have ruined everything

In the first period, OL had offered a response to Losc.

But the second half was almost one-sided.

By collecting a second yellow card synonymous with expulsion in the 50th minute, Marcelo removed any hope of an exploit at OL.

To defend the best possible ten against eleven, Rudi Garcia has strangely chosen to bring out Aouar, his best field player.

But the original Benlarmi-Diomané association in the axis held until the end.

And validated the choices of the Lyon coach with this very good point which allows OL to chain a sixth match in a row without defeat.
