Nine players from the French football team gave their support to French teachers and paid tribute to their mission in a message posted by the Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer on Sunday on his Twitter account.

This intervention comes after the assassination of Samuel Paty, this history and geography professor killed by an Islamist terrorist after showing his students a caricature of Muhammad published in Charlie Hebdo.

In this video entitled “Message from the French football team to the students of France” appear Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud, Léo Dubois, Benjamin Pavard, Clément Lenglet, Raphaël Varane, Steven Nzonzi, Hugo Lloris and Corentin Tolisso.

"Our school is what brings us together," said Rennes midfielder Steven Nzonzi.

"Our school makes us free and equal citizens", adds captain of the blues and Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

“Going to school is a chance.

A chance that the French Republic offers you through its teachers, ”underlines Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.

Tribute paid at the start of the school year

"To be free is to learn to think for yourself, based on verified facts, knowledge and logic," said Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard.

“You are welcomed at school without any distinction.

You all have the same rights and the same duties as the other students in your class, ”adds Barça defender Clément Lenglet.

On the occasion of the return to school on Monday, a tribute to Samuel Paty is planned in French schools with in particular a minute of silence at 11am, after reading Jean Jaurès' letter to teachers.
