Injury to the former Manchester United player with mental deterioration

Norma, wife of Sir Bobby Charlton, a former Manchester United midfielder and World Cup winner in 1966 with the England national team, confirmed his mental decline, in an interview published on Sunday.

It was a difficult time for Charlton, as the news came after the death of his brother, Jack, last July, and his England team-mate Nobby Styles, last Friday, as both were diagnosed with mental illness.

Norma Charlton said in an interview with the Daily Telegraph that she hoped news of her husband's diagnosis would help others.

Charlton played for 17 years for Manchester United, winning three League titles, the FA Cup in 1962 and the European Champion Clubs Cup (UEFA Champions League) in 1968. He

was nominated for the best player in the world, the Golden Ball, three times and won the vote in 1966 after lifting the World Cup at Wembley.
