The "tennis star" denies attempting to strangle his ex-girlfriend

German tennis star Alexander Zverev said his ex-girlfriend's accusations that he assaulted her in New York last year are "simply not true".

The world seventh seed insisted that Olga Sharipova's claims that he had tried to "strangle her" during the US Open "were unfounded" and made him "very sad".

Sharipova did not name Zverev in a post on her Instagram account, but she returned and explained to Russian media that she meant her 23-year-old ex-lover.

Sharipova also claimed that her head was hit by a wall and she was forced to flee from a hotel barefoot.

"The unsubstantiated allegations from my ex-girlfriend Olga Sharipova ... make me very sad," said Zverev, who reached the final of this year's US Championships.

"I very much regret that she makes similar comments, because the accusations are simply incorrect," he said.

"We had a relationship, but it ended a long time ago. I don't know why Olga is issuing these accusations now," he added.

And he added, "I hope that both of us will find a way to deal with the other again in a reasonable and respectful manner."

Zverev also revealed Thursday that he will become the father of his ex-partner Brenda Bhatia, who expressed her desire not to share custody with the owner of the overwhelming dispatches, who commented on the matter, "The last days were very difficult for me."
