Following the reconfinement announced by Emmanuel Macron, the organization of the famous solo round-the-world sailing race confirmed the start on November 8 but behind closed doors. 

There will be a Vendée Globe this year.

SAEM Vendée, the organizer of the famous four-year round-the-world sailing race, solo and non-stop, has confirmed the departure of the boats on Sunday November 8 at 1:02 p.m. from Les Sables-d'Olonne, but it will take place behind closed doors, without an audience.

A decision announced the day after the announcements made by the President of the Republic concerning a reconfinement of the whole country from Thursday evening, midnight. 

The start of this solo race attracts many spectators every four years at Les Sable-d'Olonne.

This year, it will be broadcast live on vendeegloble.org.

The Vendée Globe village will be closed to the public from Friday October 30 inclusive.

33 starters, for two and a half months of racing

"The Vendée Globe 2020-2021 will remain as a symbol, that of our desire to continue living despite the difficulties our country is going through and in scrupulous respect for the health rules set by the State," said the press release from SAEM. 

Thirty-three boats will take the start on November 8, the first boats are expected around January 22 off Sables-d'Olonne for the finish.
