Does Josep Maria Bartomeu live on the same planet as us?

The president of FC Barcelona estimated Monday that he had no reason to resign from the presidency of the club when he is targeted by a motion of censure, has just lost the clasico, almost lost Messi in the last transfer window and was humiliated by Bayern in the Champions League in August.

His argument?

“It would be the worst time to leave Barça.

Bad faith of the day, hello.

“There is no reason to resign.

There are a lot of responsibilities (at stake), I think this would be the worst moment to abandon Barça to a transitional management commission, ”after a meeting of the Catalan club's management committee.

In the event of resignation, a transitional commission would have acted as interim until new elections.

A referendum in mid-November?

"It is a moment of high responsibility, it is the moment to take decisions", he added, specifying that "a transitional management commission could not take the decisions that we are in the process of making. take ”to find solutions to the problems due to the pandemic, which has severely affected Barça's accounts.

President Bartomeu and the executive committee are still under a motion of censure, after opponents (including some candidates for the club presidency, scheduled for March 20, 2021) managed to collect more than 16,521 signatures necessary with socios (supporters-shareholders) to activate this process of dismissal.

On Monday evening, Bartomeu released an open letter in first person explaining that he wants the referendum for his impeachment to be held on the weekend of November 15 and 16, arguing that it takes at least a fortnight to prepare this vote.

A vote, constraints

A vote that will take place, for the first time in the history of the club, over two days and at several voting places scattered around Barcelona, Catalonia and the rest of Spain, in order to avoid crowds of people and take appropriate health measures to deal with the novel coronavirus.

But the opponents want this referendum to be organized on November 1 and 2, a deadline set according to the statutes of the Blaugrana club.

Barça assures that he does not have time to organize this vote in such a short time, and that this deadline would force him to organize the vote at Camp Nou, which could increase the risk of contagion, and has asked the Catalan regional government to vote on this.
