It's the end of the journey for Grosjean -

We see you coming.

No, no valves on the accidents of Romain Grosjean.

The hour is serious for the French driver, whose end on the paddock is near.

He will not be renewed by the Haas team, where his contract expires at the end of the season and should therefore leave Formula 1.

“It's a little weird, it's a page that is turned.

Is this the moment when I saw myself leaving F1?

Not really, but the circumstances are such with the Covid, with the financial difficulties in the different industries, it's like that and we have to deal with it, ”he admitted at a press conference.

Never say never

“I still wanted to do something in Formula 1 and I still had my place in terms of speed, experience and what I can bring to an F1 team.

Now, they (Haas) have decided to take a different direction and it's completely understandable given the situation, ”added the Franco-Swiss driver.

His teammate, the Dane Kevin Magnussen, will also not be renewed next year.

The Haas team is financed by the American industrialist Gene Haas and has, this year, no main sponsor other than its owner.

The drivers likely to join it from next season could be "paying", that is to say, bring a budget, which was not the case with Grosjean and Magnussen.

“There are now a lot of paying drivers in F1 and that complicates things for others,” said Grosjean.

Regarding his future, he seemed to rule out staying in F1.

“But you should never say never and things might break free and come my way,” he said.

Electricity or endurance for the future

“Formula E (electric) is an alternative for the rest of my career.

It's a world championship, the cars aren't F1 in terms of performance, but the challenge of managing your energy and trying to be smarter than the others is fun.

It can be a direction.

Look at the endurance side too, I did the 24 Hours of Le Mans ten years ago and I'm looking forward to going back one day because it's an extraordinary race.

It's also something that I watch, ”he said.
