“Ansu running has something of a gazelle, or a young black street vendor fleeing on Paseo de Gracia [an avenue in Barcelona] when someone announces the arrival of the police.

"It was with these words that a journalist from ABC, Spain, commented on Tuesday on Ansu Fati's performance in Barça's victory against Ferencvaros in the Champions League.

General outcry, obviously, for these racist remarks.

Antoine Griezmann was notably one of the first to react, recalling that his teammate was "an exceptional guy who deserves respect like all human beings".

Ansu es un chico excepcional que merece respeto como cualquier ser humano.

No al racismo y no a la mala educación.

On Thursday, the author of the insulting comment apologized on his newspaper's website.

Apparently he was very surprised when he heard that people found his text racist:

“In my desire to praise the beauty of Ansu's body language, and his class as a young player, certain expressions have been understood as racist slurs,” he wrote.

Nothing is so far from my intention, from my opinions, very favorable to the player, as I have expressed in all my articles about him.

I am deeply sorry for the misunderstanding and apologize to anyone who may have been offended.
