The result is actually the best a Swedish driver has managed individually at the World Cup level in almost 20 years.
Gifting ran the European Championship series earlier and had the opportunity to make a comeback for Spanish GAS-GAS in the middle of the season when the team suffered injuries.
The 19-year-old took the chance and has lined up top 10 results.
Gifting got off to two really good starts in today's competition.
In the second heat he had a third place in three laps and fought with several star drivers.
He rolled twice but could still come back and be five.
- It's a bit new for me with the high tempo up there.
I probably got a little more tired than usual, Gifting admits.
"So glad I got the chance"
The Swede's progress has made a great impression in the depot.
There is much to suggest that Gifting has a bright future in the sport.
Already this weekend, the next World Cup competition will be run on the same course.
- I'm so happy I got a chance.
Hope it continues as it started.
I do not have very high expectations of myself for the weekend.
I'm just driving on.
Alvin Östlund also had a good day in Lommel.
Östlund finished tenth overall after a ninth and eleventh place in the heat.
