  • Perrine Laffont intends to make children aware of climate issues during an event organized in Ariège, in her Monts-d'Olmes resort.

  • The Olympic mogul ski champion also tries to promote the environmental cause in her sport.

But it comes up against powerful brakes.

For Perrine Laffont, the resumption of the World Cup season - if the Covid wants it - is scheduled for December 4 in Ruka, Finland.

The undisputed queen of mogul skiing wants to extend her reign.

But the Ariègeoise, soon to be 22 (she will have them on October 28) is also working on another project linked to the environment, on the slopes where she made her first jumps.

The Monts-d'Olmes resort already organizes a Perrine Laffont day every year, with selfies and mogul sessions on the program.

The Olympic champion now wants to go further.

"With my partners, we are trying to make the event grow, to talk about certain causes that are close to my heart, such as global warming," she explained this Wednesday morning, in a press videoconference.

We need to educate children, because they are the ones who can change things.

The details of the event remain to be defined, as well as the date.

Usually, the day takes place in February, but the sports calendar of the Ariégeoise compromises this possibility.

“It might be Christmas, but it's always complicated depending on the snow.

Or in March.

"Subject to sanitary conditions at that time, of course.

"It's all so political all that"

The queen of moguls readily recognizes a contradiction between her commitments and her sport, which leads her to travel frequently by plane to all the mountains of the world.

“You feel guilty,” she admits.

We are fighting for a cause but we are not helping to make it improve.

But it's all so political.

Talking about it, working together between athletes, can make things happen;

But when you see what the president of the FIS says… ”

In February 2019, Gian-Franco Kasper, the Swiss boss of the International Ski Federation, mentioned “the so-called climate change” in the German-speaking Swiss newspaper

Chinese puzzle

"There is also China, it comes out through my eyes, it's completely crazy to see that such a station will host the Games", laments the Pyrenees.

In 2022, the Beijing Olympics must take place largely in the region of Zhangjiakou, 200 km northwest of the Chinese capital, at the cost of colossal work and massive use of artificial snow.

Not necessarily "environmentally friendly", even if the local authorities ensure they are working to reduce the carbon footprint of the Games.

As a rehearsal, this site will host the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Worlds from February 18 to 28.

It is therefore in this abhorred site that Perrine Laffont will perhaps win the only title missing from her incredible record: that of individual world champion.

The irony of sport.
