Anicet Mbida, in his daily column on innovation, presents an original helmet.

This is a flexible and foldable bicycle helmet!

Two-wheeled safety offers an original innovation: a flexible bicycle helmet that can be folded flat to be stored in a pocket.

As we all know, the main reason why some cyclists do not use helmets is because they are too big, too bulky.

You never know where to store them.

Now imagine a soft and flexible helmet, a bit like a cap, that you can crush and fold flat on itself to make a small pancake 3-4 cm thick.

This allows it to easily slip into a coat pocket or bag.

And therefore to always have your helmet with you.

If it is soft and flexible, how does it protect?

It is made of a special material: a kind of gel that can instantly harden when you try to crush it.

This is called a non-Newtonian material.

When you handle the helmet gently to fold or put it on, it stays soft.

But in the event of an impact, its surface will become as rigid as plastic, with just the right amount of flexibility on the inside to absorb the shock.

It was the Danes from the Newton Rider startup who developed it.

It is obviously approved otherwise it could not be marketed.

Could it also be of interest to scooter users?

Yes, especially since these are the ones we see less often with helmets.

To encourage them to wear it, operators offer discounts or free rides to those wearing helmets.

As a result, this headset, like many new ones, will be equipped with contactless chips that it will suffice to scan with the application to benefit from the promotion.

Now there are really no more excuses not to wear a helmet, bike or self-service scooter.
