A general strike in the city of Chebba in Tunisia after the suspension of the activities of a football club

A dispute between the Hilal Al-Shabba club and the Tunisian Football Federation ended in angry demonstrations on Sunday and a general strike on Monday, coinciding with the candidacy of two prominent personalities for the presidency of the Confederation of African Football.


Many shops, stores and departments closed their doors in the coastal city of Al-Shabaa (east) today, Monday, and demonstrators closed the main entrance to the city and burned tires, while others demonstrated carrying the team's flags in white and green.


Supporters and fans of the "Chebbi Sports Crescent" are protesting against a decision taken by the Tunisian Football Federation to suspend its activities.


Last Saturday, the Tunisian Football Association decided to suspend the activity of the Hilal Young Association and prevent it from participating in the competitions it organizes for the 2020-2021 season.


The federation attributed its decision to "the lack of completion of the enrollment file of the Al-Hilal Sports Youth Society, despite the club's correspondence and reminders of it several times."


Since 2012, the president of the federation, Wadih Al-Jari, has been campaigning for the presidency of the Confederation of African Football, and the Tunisian businessman and a member of the FIFA Council and the African Union, Tariq Boushmawi, also submitted his candidacy for the position, which sparked a rivalry between the two parties.


Sadiq Khansa, member of the Coordination for Support of Helal Al-Shabahah said, "The families of the young woman are angry at the injustice and the rule of the Union."


"We ask the president to intervene to stop this farce," he added.


A sharp dispute erupted between the bold and the president of the young Hilal club, Tawfiq Makshar, months ago after the latter published a blog post on Facebook calling for the union to be transparent in disposing of money and demanding an administrative audit.


The club faced heavy financial penalties last July.


Tunisian Prime Minister Hicham El Mechichi expressed in an interview yesterday, Sunday, his "understanding" of the anger of the masses and called on them to object to the League's decisions according to the law.


The elections for the president of the African Union "CAF" will be held on March 12 in Rabat, Morocco.


The current President of Malagasy Ahmed Ahmed has not yet revealed whether he wants to run for a new term.
