It is barely a year since the news hit.

23-year-old elite athlete Oskar Lindblom had been diagnosed with the malignant and deadly disease Ewing Sarcoma.

A rare form of cancer that attacks the skeleton and slowly breaks down the body.

- It started with me getting a tackle and pain in the ribs.

I did not think about it anymore.

It did not feel like a hundred, but as a hockey player you do not think about it.

It's probably over.

- I continued to play and got more tackles.

After a while, I could not even lie on that side.

Sambon Alma:

- I always see the worst in everything.

In this case, I'm very glad I did.

I googled and the first thing I came up with was order cancer.

I was incredibly scared and could not sleep that night.

- The first doctor said that it was most likely not cancer, but after a closer examination, Ewing Sarcoma was determined.

It was a shock.

Every now and then the fight began.

A battle that the two, side by side, fought.

- Alma was a huge support, without her I would not have made it, says Oskar Lindblom.

- You were so weak, you could not get out of bed, she says and looks with sore eyes at Oskar.

"Had I got it on the narrow leg, it would have been run"

The treatment was tough.

The cancer that attacked the ribs was removed.

- I was lucky in bad luck.

The rib was removed and now they say that there is no longer any trace of the disease in the body, Lindblom says.

- Had I got it on the narrow leg, I might not have been able to play hockey anymore.

Then it would have been run, then I would have had to remove ...

- Yes, then you would have had to amputate the leg, says Alma.

Oskar:

- Yes, or something like that ... I probably got it in the best place I could get it.

When we visit Lindblom in Gävle, he trains with his friends from Brynästiden.

All of them are NHL players today.

- It is just pure joy to be able to stand on an ice together again.

This took a toll on all of us, says Calgary star Elias Lindholm.

- This is a guy that no one can say anything negative about.

The kindest man in the world and such a thing strikes him.

But he is strong.

Wrote a new three-year contract

Lindblom, who miraculously played in the NHL playoffs during the late summer and fall, says that physics has taken a real hit after the disease.

- Sometimes it feels like I have been away from hockey for three years.

It is tough and it is difficult to find the balance in the ride, things that you do not otherwise think about.

But the goal is to be back 100 percent until the season starts again.

Lindblom's club Philadelphia also chose during this difficult time to extend the contract.

A three-year contract was signed with a salary that secures the financial future.

- I thought they were taking a risk by making this decision, but it really sends a signal.

This meant a lot to me and to the future.

At the same time, one realizes that health really comes first.

Alma:

- If you go through cancer, life will never be the same again.

You think about life in a completely different way.

You are so grateful to be healthy.

Oskar adds:

- Problems do not get so big.

Alma:

- Today we are much more positive about life.
