Normally, the Speedway of nations is decided in two days.

But the first day rained away, and therefore everything would be decided on Saturday night in Polish Lublin.

But it was only speedway in 15 heats, as the rulebook says that the result is counted after 14 heats, even if the competition is broken.

In the 15th heat, Swedish star Fredrik Lindgren crashed shortly before the finish line in Sweden's meeting with Poland.

Then the judge and the race director made the decision to break the whole race and count the final result on 14 heats run, as all countries in the final had run four heats each.

Sweden and Australia were two of the countries that did not support that decision.

Australian national team captain Mark Lemon protested loudly against the decision.

- If you start a competition, you want to finish driving.

We wanted to finish driving, but then this decision came as a letter in the mail.

It did not rain a bit worse at the end, so then you could just as easily finish driving.

We got no indication that they would break before, says Morgan Andersson to SVT Sport.

Sweden lost the bronze

In that situation, Sweden was fourth in the competition, on the same points as Denmark.

But the Danes had won the mutual meeting between the teams earlier in the evening, and were awarded the bronze.

At the same time, Russia was awarded the gold and Poland the silver in the competition.

- It felt like we were on our way there.

And it feels a little sad to lose the bronze because of this, but there is not much you can do now, says Morgan Andersson.

In the Swedish team, the newly formed WC third drove Fredrik Lindgren and the recent WC driver Oliver Berntzon.

Lindgren managed to score 14 points in his four heats and Berntzon five.

- I still want to praise the whole team.

I have never seen it be so hectic in a competition like this before.

The track was not skidded once, so it became very hectic.

But the old men did a great job, says Morgan Andersson.
