Belarusian basketball star Jelena Leutjenka, 37, was about to leave her home country for medical treatment when she was arrested at the airport in Minsk two weeks ago.

Following her arrest, she was sentenced to a maximum of 15 days in prison for taking part in two peaceful demonstrations against President Alexander Lukashenko.

Now she has been released and tells about the time in prison.

- I have lived in a bacterial hotspot.

It is a health hazard they exposed me to, says Jelena Leutjenka, according to Marca.

- There was no sleeping place and no hot water.

I have not showered in 13 days and I have not been allowed to leave the cell for five days.

The toilet drain did not work and I got lice.

During the demonstrations in the country, President Alexander Lukashenko's regime has arrested and punished many of the country's athletes who spoke out against his rule.
