The "Golden Boy" award was created by the Italian magazine Tuttosport in 2003 to draw attention to the best players in the European leagues under 21 years.

The previous winners do not go for picks, and among the players who have been awarded the prize are Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba, Mario Götze and Sergio Agüero.

Dejan Kulusevski is mainly nominated for what he achieved in Parma last season when he scored 10 goals and 9 assists in Serie A. This year he has started well at Juventus where he is a teammate with the big star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Competitors for the prize include Alphonso Davies, who became Champions League champion with Bayern Munich, Barcelona's Ansu Fati and the Norwegian super promise Erling Braut Håland.
