American mountain climber died from falling in Switzerland

A 20-year-old American woman died in a Swiss hospital this week, as a result of an injury she sustained as she fell from the top of the Alps in the Bernese province (central Switzerland), according to local authorities.

Just before 4:30 pm, the Bern district police received a report of an accident on the 1965-meter-high mountain "Blasenhubel".

And the police said in a statement issued yesterday that an investigation had been opened to find out how the accident happened accurately.

Young American Annabelle Nelson was part of a group of six climbers working for an American church.

The statement indicated that it "slipped down a slope and fell hundreds of meters, then disappeared from the view of the other members of the group."

Two members of the group went down to the direction they fell, trying to locate them.

Rescue helicopters arrived as the climbers approached their location.

The young woman was severely injured and required her to be taken to hospital, where she died shortly after.

The other climbers were evacuated by a helicopter, none of whom were injured.
