A Chinese club punishes its coach for commenting on the team's shirt color

The Chinese club, Sichuan Jiuniu, fined its coach with a one-month salary deduction and suspended him for a week, for saying that the blue jersey for playing away from home brought more luck.

The club, threatened with relegation, punished its coach Li Yi after stating that his team was suffering when he wore the team's traditional yellow jersey.

"We wore blue in the last game, and we won, sometimes luck is very important," the coach said in a previous statement.

The coach's statement did not like the management of his club, which has only won an orphan once out of ten matches this season.

Yellow has long been associated with football in the southwestern province, in a tradition that dates back to the 1990s, according to state media.

The club accused its coach of "hurting the feeling of the Sichuan fans."

"The club has decided to punish Li Yi by depriving him of his salary for a month and suspending his work for a week."

Li was also required to study the "glorious history" of soccer in Sichuan and learned how important the color yellow was.

It is noteworthy that the club was included in the "CFG" group in February 2019, out of ten international clubs, while its Spanish CEO, Ferran Soriano, pledged to "develop and develop Sichuan Jiuyu and sponsor Chinese football talents."
