  China News Service, October 14th. On the 13th Beijing time, the ITTF officially announced that in order to best protect the health and safety of athletes during the new crown epidemic, it has decided to cancel the 2020 World Youth Table Tennis Championships.

  The 2020 World Junior Championships was originally scheduled to be held in Guimarães, Portugal from November 29 to December 6, 2020.

The Portuguese Table Tennis Association has held many meetings with the ITTF Competition Department and reported to the ITTF Executive Committee (Executive Committee).

  After negotiating with Portuguese table tennis, the executive committee decided to cancel the 2020 World Youth Table Tennis Championships in order to best protect the health and safety of athletes during the new crown epidemic.

  The ITTF stated that the Portuguese Table Tennis Association will host the first new ITTF World Youth Championships (ITTF World Youth Championships). The competition is expected to begin in 2021 and is currently awaiting approval from the board of directors.

The board of directors will receive the proposal of the executive committee on November 19, 2020.

  The Tunisian Table Tennis Association, which was originally scheduled to host the 2021 World Junior Championships, will host the 2022 ITTF World Junior Championships.

  In addition, the ITTF expresses its sincere gratitude to the member associations of both sides for their comprehensive understanding and support of the proposal.

In Tunisia in particular, in order to enable Portugal to host the ITTF World Junior Championships in 2021, in principle, it has agreed to hold the event in 2022.

  The ITTF stated that the newly revised structure of youth competitions will also be announced soon.
